Helen is Daria's mother.  Control freak, Type 'A' personality, anal (retentive, not expulsive), whatever you want to call it, Helen is a woman with a mission:  "Get the spice back in my marriage."  Of course, work comes first.  She's a lawyer, probably a prosecutor, has a boss or associate at "the firm" named Eric, and has an assitant.  She takes time-management sessions, works late, and only takes days off when it's use-it or lose-it.
